NCSCT launch new online training module on incentives for stopping smoking in pregnancy

National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training launch new online training module to support staff involved with the incentive scheme for stopping smoking in pregnancy.

New training module for staff supporting pregnant women who smoke.

The National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) has launched its new module of online training for staff involved with the incentive scheme for stopping smoking in pregnancy.

Developed in partnership with the Department of Health and Social Care, the module is aimed at both maternity care providers, to equip them with the knowledge and skills to raise the topic with their patients, and at pregnancy stop smoking practitioners who will deliver the National Smoke-free Pregnancy Incentive Scheme.

The module is available here

Featuring experts in the field, and the voices of pregnant women, the module aims to guide staff through the process of introducing and explaining the incentives scheme and delivering it as part of a multi-session behavioural support programme. The module also assumes that staff have had prior training in Very Brief Advice on Smoking (VBA+).

The Very Brief Advice on Smoking in Pregnancy module is available here.

Jane Coyne, National Pregnancy Incentive lead, spoke with health care professionals about the new scheme during the London Tobacco Alliance Webinar to mark the first London Smoke Free Pregnancy week.
