The London Tobacco Alliance Annual Report 2024/25
The London Tobacco Alliance (LTA) was established in 2022 to coordinate efforts across the capital to make London smokefree by 2030. Now in its third year, the Alliance has strengthened partnerships with local authorities, the NHS, public health professionals, academics, councillors, third sector organisations and community leaders, ensuring that tobacco control remains a top priority for London.
The 2024/25 report showcases the breadth of this work. Key highlights include the successful pilot of the Smoke Free app, which gave 2,500 Londoners six months of free digital quit support and resulted in 40% of users being smokefree at four weeks. The LTA also launched the city’s first Smokefree Pregnancy Week, raising awareness of the harms of smoking during pregnancy and engaging healthcare professionals and expectant mothers alike.
Recognising the higher smoking prevalence in certain groups, the Alliance created a targeted campaign for London’s Polish community, working with trusted voices to deliver bilingual resources and advice. Work also continued with employers, faith groups, social prescribers and mental health organisations to embed stop smoking support in everyday settings, and young Londoners were given a platform to share their views on the Tobacco and Vapes Bill.
Through Stop Smoking London, the LTA’s public-facing service, we provided practical tools, case studies and resources to help individuals quit and to support professionals working across the city.
Looking ahead, the report outlines priorities for 2025/26, including rolling out digital support more widely, launching new campaigns focused on mental health and LGBTQ+ communities, supporting the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, and continuing to address smoking-related health inequalities.
